Breakfast planned with Pagano

Auction benefits Special Olympics

ANDERSON – Local residents will have the opportunity to hear from Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano and to bid on a signed Andrew Luck jersey.

The city of Anderson in conjunction with Hoosier Park, Community Hospital of Anderson, Anderson University, the Anderson Madison County Visitors Bureau and The Herald Bulletin are hosting the breakfast with Pagano as the speaker. The breakfast is at 7 a.m. Aug. 1 at Reardon Auditorium.

“This is Anderson’s special event,” Tom Bannon, executive director of the Anderson Madison County Visitors Bureau, said. "We like to have people visit Madison County for the Colts camp, but this is for the residents of Anderson and Madison County.

“Coach Pagano is an interesting and funny speaker,” Bannon said. “He will give some insight into how the training camp is progressing.”

At previous breakfasts Pagano has been interviewed by Bob Lamey, the voice of the Colts. Bannon was unsure of the format for 2014.

The Indiana Colts training camp opens at Anderson University on July 23 and will be in camp until Aug. 13.

Bannon said the breakfast was moved from the Paramount Theatre to Reardon Auditorium to make it easier for Pagano because the Colts will already be on the university campus.

The auction will benefit Special Olympics of Madison County and will include a jersey and football signed by Luck and other sports memorabilia.

“I always like it when the community comes together,” Bannon said. “A lot of people will be wearing Colts jerseys and shirts. It’s Anderson’s celebration of the camp.”

Ashley Hopper, Anderson city attorney, said the proceeds from the breakfast will offset some of the money the city has agreed to provide to Anderson University for the Colts to be in Anderson.

“The breakfast and hospitality tent are fundraisers to help defray the cost of the camp,” she said.
