Eagles pull steadily away from Broncos

DALEVILLE, Ind. — As a test for the upcoming sectional, the Frankton boys basketball team passed with few problems here Saturday night.

Coming off a big conference win at Mississinewa on Friday, the Eagles bounced back to dismiss Daleville 74-43.

“I thought we had a hard battle against Mississinewa,” said Frankton coach Brent Brobston. “In the first half we just didn’t get some shots to fall. Playing these back-to-back games late in the season helps us focus if we need to do that in the sectional.”

Aaron Korn had an efficient 19-point outing without playing in the fourth quarter for Frankton. Korn hit 8 of 13 shots from the field, one of those a 3-pointer. Nick Wright also reached double figures in scoring with 10.

Austin Compton scored seven points but he helped the Eagles to a 28-21 rebounding edge with a team-high six boards.

Frankton had a dozen players score, and 14 got playing time.

Daleville had two score in double figures, topped by James Tungate with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Bryce Stephens was next with 12, but the rest of the team combined to score just 15 points.

The Broncos failed to handle Frankton’s pressure defense and turned the ball over 25 times. Frankton had just 10 miscues despite using a large number of players.

Now Frankton will turn its attention to next week and even a bit beyond.

The Eagles are now 12-5 and are tied for the Central Indiana Conference lead with Oak Hill. They both have 4-2 marks.

“We want to win the CIC,” said Brobston. “We still have a game with Alexandria so that is really in our hands now.”

Even before that, Frankton has a home game on Thursday. “We have a game against a tough Liberty Christian team,” Brobston said. “We play Cowan. We’ve battled through some sickness in the middle of the season but we’re pretty healthy right now.”

Daleville drops to 2-14 and has four games remaining. Next for the Broncos is a Thursday home game against Tri-Central.
