APA rolls to homecoming victory

ANDERSON, Ind. — After chalking up its first win last week aganst the Indiana School for the Deaf, Anderson Preparatory Academy used a balanced attack to grab a 50-0 home win against Traders Point Christian.

The Jets (2-4) took their first offensive possession to the house on a Triston Anderson to Leo Harris 22-yard touchdown pass, and from there the route was on as the Jets got four scores on the ground and two through the air.

No APA runner had more than seven carries, with D’Andre Patterson leading all rushers with two carries for 87 yards. Both of his carries went for touchdowns from 25 and 62 yards, respectively.

Harris shredded the Golden Eagles’ defense by catching six passes for 125 yards, including touchdowns of 22 and 33 yards, and Anderson threw for 142 yards and two scores with no picks.

To make the win more special, the Jets were able to beat Traders Point (0-6) during their homecoming night, and coach Joe Kwisz said that his team put together a complete game.

“Homecoming, what a great thing,” he said after the game. “Last year, we kind of had a rough run at it during our homecoming, but tonight the guys got after it from play one. We have a saying here, ‘play one to play done’ is what we go by, and tonight they really did.”

Kwisz said despite the fact Anderson had never thrown a football until last year and Harris is in his first year of football, they are now hitting their stride, and it is paying off for APA.

“He’s a very tough kid to cover. He’s wiry, we call him,” Kwisz said of Harris. “He (has) a really quick first step, able to get separation, get up field and get vertical, and Triston, my goodness, the kid throws a phenomenal football. Funny thing is, he never threw a ball until last year.”
