Kokomo spoils Tribe's senior night

ANDERSON, Ind. — The Kokomo Wildkats spoiled Senior Night at Collier Field on Friday night, defeating the Anderson Indians 42-7 in the regular-season finale.

The Kats rushed for 463 yards and five touchdowns as they dominated the line of scrimmage. Kokomo outgained Anderson 482-102 in the game, including 249-46 in the first half. The Kats limited Anderson to just 12 offensive plays in the second half and had a 61-38 advantage in the game in total plays. Kokomo also had the advantage in first downs 23-4.

"I think they whipped us physically," said Anderson coach Randy Albano. "That is our worst offensive showing this year. That's the first time we haven't moved the ball, and the defense was out there 75-80 percent of the time."

Tyler Welch led the Indians with seven carries for 55 yards and added a pair of receptions. Welch also accounted for the only Anderson points with an 82-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter.

“We didn’t throw the ball well, and we didn’t block very well,” said Albano. “Our kids up front aren’t getting it down, and we didn’t communicate very well on the field. We had a bad game, but the kids played hard.”

Kokomo led just 7-0 after the first quarter but tacked on three touchdowns in the second to lead 28-0 at the half.

AHS (3-6) will have the bye next week before hosting Richmond in the sectional on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
