Bulldogs rally past Eagles at Muller

ANDERSON — Kallen Brooks went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, including a walk-off double in the eighth inning, and Lapel rallied to defeat rival Frankton 3-2 on Saturday at Memorial Field.

Brooks' double to right field with one out in the bottom of the eighth scored pinch-runner John Sherwood from first base and clinched third place in the Nick Muller Memorial Baseball Tournament for the Bulldogs (3-2). It is Lapel's highest finish in the event since a runner-up showing in 2007.

"He's a great kid," Bulldogs coach Brad Lantz said of Brooks. "We're trying to find a DH or an outfielder who can put the ball in play, and he showed he can do that today. We're trying to work in three or four guys at that spot. Today it was his turn, and he took advantage of it."

Brady Cherry struck out 11 batters and surrendered just four hits in the complete-game victory. Brycen Downs allowed just two runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings for Frankton (2-3). Blaine Reed pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for the Eagles, giving up three hits and fanning two.

Saturday's other scores Fifth-place game Alexandria 13, Madison-Grant 1 Seventh-place game Elwood 7, Liberty Christian 4
