Area Roundup: Tigers rally to win ranked battle

DALEVILLE — Alexandria rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to knock off Daleville 7-6 in a battle of ranked teams Monday night.

The Class 2A No. 4 Tigers got a strong outing from Drew Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI at the plate and pitched two scorless innings of relief to pick up the save. Chet Maynard went 2-for-3 with a double, and Mason Hoke was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kolby Haas added a double and an RBI, Beau Thompson doubled and Braden Warren drove in a run for Alexandria.

Braxton Moore picked up the win after striking out three batters in five innings.

TJ Price was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Class A No. 7 Broncos. Gavin Whitmore was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Caleb Maddox went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Levi Floyd also drove in a run for the Broncos.

Girls Tennis

Lapel sweeps Elwood

LAPEL — Lexi Allen led a 5-0 victory for the Bulldogs with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Bailee Scribner added a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, and Emma Bush scored a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles.

Kaitlin Dobbins and Rachel Thalls scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles, and Peighton Dobbins and Gabby Cherry rounded out the evening with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-2 and travel to Madison-Grant today.
