Area Roundup: Liberty Christian sweeps Randolph Southern

LYNN — Liberty Christian softball brought out the heavy lumber Saturday to topple Randolph Southern 14-7 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Kelsey Flowers took the victory on the mound after tossing four strikeouts and allowing four earned runs. The Lions held Randolph scorless in the first two innings and took a 7-0 lead.

Freshman Emily Kardatzke had three hits, including a double, and contributed three RBIs. Sami Hazlebaker also slammed a double, and Katie Maidlow plated three runs.

Randolph’s 19 errors contributed to Liberty Christians’ 20-19 win in the second game.

The Lions are 7-4 and host Hagerstown on Monday.

Lady Tribe splits at Logan

LOGANSPORT — Anderson began North Central Conference play with a 6-4 win over Logansport. But the Lady Tribe dropped a 7-4 decision in Game 2.

Haley Helton tossed seven innings, giving up one earned run and striking out four. Tamera Fuller went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs. Alexandria Poor and Avery Raper each batted 2-for-4, and Poor contributed two RBIs.

In the second game, Fuller was strong at the plate, going 3-for-3, slamming her first home run for the season and driving in three RBIs. Poor and Taryn Harvey each batted 2-for-4.

The Lady Tribe are 4-6 and host Shenandoah on Wednesday.

Argylls fall short at Northwestern

KOKOMO — Madison-Grant played aggressively against Northwestern but fell just short in 7-6 decision.

Bailey Havens pitched the first four innings and was relieved by Cierra Liddick, who took the loss in the circle. Havens batted 1-for-3 and drove in a run. Breanna Turner went 1-for-4 and plated a run.

Madison Grant is 7-6 and hosts Elwood on Wednesday.

Girls Tennis

Anderson blanked at Peru Invite

PERU — The Anderson Indians suffered a big defeat in the Peru Invitational, dropping all three matches.

No. 1 singles player Katie Urbanski defeated Fort Wayne Snider’s top player 6-3, 6-1 to give Anderson its only win in the Invitational.

Anderson is 1-10 and travels to Hunington North on Monday.
