Alex-Mississinewa thriller to be continued

ALEXANDRIA — The last thing Tuesday's Alexandria-Mississinewa baseball game needed was additional suspense. But that's exactly what it got.

Three days' worth, in fact.

The contest was suspended with the Tigers leading 17-11 in the bottom of the sixth inning and will be resumed Friday at 5 p.m. Alexandria's Beau Thompson — who had three of the team's 16 hits — will be at the plate with no outs and runners on first and second base.

"Last couple of games, we've been swinging it pretty good," Tigers coach Jeff Closser said of an offense that scored 10 runs Monday night in a loss at Tipton. "Last night we had a 6-0 lead and got beat 11-10, but we swung the bats good. Now our pitching's gotta catch back up."

There was a sense of deja vu early when Alexandria squandered an 8-0 first-inning lead and found itself tied 9-9 after four.

The Tigers' first eight batters reached base and scored in the bottom of the first. Braden Warren's two-run double and Jonah Jerrils' two-run single highlighted a frame that also included an RBI-single for Chet Maynard and two hits for lead-off man Jessie Gossett — the last of which was an RBI-double to complete the scoring.

Mississinewa got two runs back in the top of the second, but Thompson's RBI-single in bottom of the inning pushed Alexandria's lead back to 9-2. Then things got really crazy.

The Indians scored six runs on just four hits — getting the aide of two walks and two Tigers' errors — in the top of the third. The frame included a two-run double for Ian Mill and a three-run double by Austin Kern, and the tying run was stranded on second base.

An inning later, Cory Markley's RBI-single finished the job and tied the game.
