Arabians complete spring sweep with golf title

ANDERSON — The Pendleton Heights golf team completed the school sweep for the spring and showed off its depth in the Madison County Golf Meet at The Edge on Saturday.

The Arabians’ team victory meant that Pendleton Heights claimed every county title available for the spring.

The quantity of quality on the PH team was evident after the No.1 player, Illinois-bound Colin Proctor, shot a 41-39-80, which included a 7 on the front nine and another 7 on the back. Yet the team still put together a 294 without counting Proctor’s score.

Tyler Meyer carded a 34-35-79 for medalist honors. He credited a quick start for getting his game rolling.

He started on No. 8, a par 3, on this shotgun start. “I almost hit it in,” said Meyer. “It ended up about 3 feet (away). Then a had a birdie at No. 10. I was just able to stay confident the rest of the day.”

Meyer had nothing higher than a 5 all day and five times he put a 3 on his scorecard.

Yet even that showing was only a shot better than teammate Trevar Denney, who put together a 35-35-70. During one three-hole stretch on the back nine, Denney had a strings of 3s.

“It was good to see Tyler post a number we know he’s capable of shooting,” said PH coach Jim Phillips. “I think any one of our top four are capable of putting up a number like that.”

Zach Farrer was on his way to a round that might have been under 70 as well. “Zach was 1-under with four holes to play,” said Phillips. “But he got a bad break on a hole and he let it bother him. He was under a tree and thought it was ground under repair but it wasn’t so he had to hit out of that.” Farrer posted three straight 6s.
