Arabian golfers dominate county field

PH has 5 All-County members

ANDERSON, Ind. — In a performance that lends a whole new meaning to “dominant,” Pendleton Heights left the Madison County Golf Tournament field in its wake Saturday.

The Arabians posted five of the top six golf scores en route to a 293 and a repeat of the county golf title.

“We actually are seven or eight deep,” said PH coach Jim Phillips. “Lapel didn’t play well today. I thought it was doing to be closer. But our goal is to win the county. It’s starting to get warmer and we’re starting to play better.”

The Bulldogs placed second with 321 and Anderson was third at 350.

PH’s Colin Proctor posted the top score, a 35-37-72, for medalist honors, just ahead of the 38-35-73 carded by Rylan Denney. Tyler Meyer had a 36-38-74 and Zack Forrer 37-37-74. Trevor Denney had a 37-39-76.

“We’re all playing well right now,” said Proctor. “Zack played really well and Rylan has played well all year.”

Proctor was a bit less excited about his own play.

“I am glad I won, but I’m not happy with the way I played,” said Proctor, who is going to Illinois when his prep career is completed. “I had a double-(bogey) on No. 6 and I lost interest.”

The top six players are named All County and the only one to get that honor who didn’t ride in the PH team bus was Lapel’s Tanner Watkins. Watkins posted a 36-39-75.

Even though there is still a conference championship to be contested on Saturday at Shelbyville, there is also the sectional next month at Purgatory Golf Course.

“I am happy with 293 and would take that the rest of the way,” said Phillips. “But I know we left some shots out there. I saw Colin make a double. We can play better. We want to get out of the sectional and then play in the state as a team.”

The second best non-Pendleton Heights score also came from the Bulldogs as Mitchell Richardson posted a 38-41-79.
