Ravens split with Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio — The Anderson University men’s basketball team defeated Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton University 78-71 on Saturday at The Sommer Center.

Scott Schwieterman led the Ravens with a career-high 20 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks, hitting 9-of-13 field goals and both of his free throws. His previous high was 18 at Evansville earlier this season.

Max Mollaun also had 20 points to go with five rebounds, making 7-of-16 field goals, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Nathaniel Acree was also in double figures with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Nate Gross added six points and three rebounds, and Gerald Harney led the team with four assists to go with four points and two rebounds. Brett Anderson chipped in with three points and three assists.

Anderson shot 59 percent from the field, including 71 in the first half when it led 41-39. Bluffton finished at 43 percent shooting, including 38 in the second half.

The Ravens set a school record by hitting 10-of-12 shots from 3-point range, which was 83 percent. They also made 10-of-13 free throws in the contest. Bluffton was 3-of-14 from behind the arc and 16-of-20 at the charity stripe.

The Beavers had a 31-30 advantage on the boards, including 12-4 on the offensive glass. Bluffton also had the edge in points in the paint (42-34), turnovers (8-13), points off turnovers (17-9), second chance points (14-7) and steals (7-3).

AU (4-13, 4-6 HCAC) travels to Rose-Hulman on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Women’s Basketball Bluffton 75, Anderson 55

Jenna Wittenberg led the Ravens with 17 points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals, hitting 4-of-11 field goals and all eight of her free throws.

Cori Connor had 10 points and four rebounds, and Emily Aviles was also in double figures with 10 points.

The Ravens shot 35 percent from the field, including 3-of-15 from 3-point range and 16-of-21 from the free throw line while the Beavers were at 56 percent shooting, including 7-of-12 from behind the arc and 18-of-25 from the charity stripe.

Bluffton had a 36-24 advantage on the boards and also had the edge in points in the paint (30-16), assists (19-14) and blocks (3-1) while Anderson had the lead in turnovers (18-23), points off turnovers (20-19), second chance points (10-8) and steals (10-6).

AU (1-16, 0-10 HCAC) hosts Rose-Hulman on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
