Jones presented with Hoosier Homestead Award
Martha E. Jones, whose Madison County homestead was founded in 1908, was presented with a Hoosier Homestead Award on Friday at the Indiana Statehouse.
Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman and Indiana Agriculture Director Anne Hazlett presented 35 families with the awards. To be named a Hoosier Homestead, farms must be owned by the same family for more than 100 consecutive years and consist of more than 20 acres or produce more than $1,000 of agricultural products per year. More than 4,500 families have been honored with the Hoosier Homestead Award since 1976.

ClipZone to cut for heart health
ClipZone Salon stylists will provide haircuts and styles for $24 from noon to 6 p.m. Feb. 23 in the salon at 1913 C St., Anderson. The event, called Cuts for a Cause, will benefit the American Heart Association and the Saint John’s Foundation. No appointments are necessary.
Stylists also will perform discounted services like brow shaping, makeup application, Dermalogica face mapping, chair massage and men’s cuts. St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana, Saint John’s Health System and the American Heart Association will have displays and door prize drawings during the event.

Women invited to heart health casting call
Local women are invited to participate in the 2009 Go Red for Women casting call to share their heart health stories. Saint John’s Health System, St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana and the American Heart Association are in collaboration on the event.
Women will be videotaped sharing their stories about heart-healthy lifestyle changes and may be included in a national television special. Call (765) 646-8290 to make an appointment to videotape a story.

Altairnano joins battery consortium
Anderson company Altairnano is part of a consortium to mass produce lithium-ion batteries for vehicles. The consortium is intended to help U.S. researchers keep pace with their Asian counterparts in lithium-ion battery development.
