JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — Beaulah Craw Bookout Gallnitz, also known as Bea, was admired and loved by all who knew her. An avid student of poetry, painting and numerous crafts, Bea passed away on Nov. 18, 2007, in Jacksonville Beach, Fla., one day shy of age 90.
Born Nov. 19, 1917, in Gaston, the daughter of the late Clayton Craw and Eva Payne Craw, she graduated with honors from Gaston High School.
She married Ward S. Bookout, who passed away in 1971. As a resident of Henry County, she was active in the community and the Blountsville Christian Church. She summered in Indiana on the family farm and enjoyed the winters in West Palm Beach, where she met and married Robert Gallnitz in 1976. Bea was widowed again in 1982. She moved to Fairhope, Ala., in 1984 to be close to her youngest sister, Nila Kelly, and in 1999, she moved to Jacksonville Beach, Fla., to be near her daughter, Nancy Ammerman.
Bea is survived by three sisters, Ruby McGibbon, Freedah Kiplinger and Nila Kelly; two children, Michael C. Bookout of Losantville and Nancy S. (husband, Ronald J.) Ammerman of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, David Ammerman, Chris Bookout and Melissa Bookout Glaser; four great-grandchildren, Zachary and Spencer Bookout and Dalton and Alysha Ammerman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle with the Rev. Albert Oren officiating. Bea will be laid to rest in Mooreland Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
