---- — ANDERSON -- Norval Denson Sylvester, 97, passed away on Aug. 13, 2013, at Community Northview Care Center.
He was born April 4, 1916, in Madison County. Norval graduated from Anderson High School in 1935. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served with Patton’s 4th Army in Europe. He retraced his army experiences with General Patton across France, Belgium and Germany.
He retired from Guide Lamp.
He was a member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge 681, Murat Temple Shrine, Madison County Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Valley, Elks and American Legion. He was a Red Coat at Community Hospital. He enjoyed fishing, basketball, traveling and dancing.
Norval is survived by his spouse of 64 years, Cordelia (Chambers) Sylvester; several nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, George (Margaret) Chambers.
He was preceded in death by parents, William and Betty Sylvester; siblings, Roy (Nellie) Sylvester, Lail (Mary) Sylvester and Forest (Ruby) Sylvester, Gorman (Mabel) Sylvester, Margaret (James) Steele, Augustus (Georgia) Sylvester, and Maurice (Minola) Sylvester.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Mark Helm officiating. Burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery with military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266.
