---- — MARKLEVILLE -- Sammie Lee Hudson, 82, of Markleville, passed Aug. 13, 2013, at AMG Specialty Hospital in Muncie.
He was born June 18, 1931, in Madison County to the late Orvis “Bill” and Bertha A. (Ray) Hudson.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Korean War. He retired from Delco Remy in Anderson following 42 years of service and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 662. Sammie enjoyed woodworking and reading.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Illie “Jane” (Neal) Hudson of Markleville; a daughter, Hope Ashleigh (Jesse) Diaz of Santa Clarita, Calif.; two grandsons, Jonathan and Tyler Diaz; two sisters, Barbara Hassig of Joliet, Ill., and Shirley Silvey of Anderson; brother-in-law, Rillie Neal of New Castle; sisters-in-law, Donna Hudson and Laurabelle Hudson, both of Anderson, Dorothy Dunn, Dixie Spurlock, Esther Taylor and Sonja Wilkinson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Bill, James and Wayne (Elaine) Hudson; brothers-in-law, Ray and Oliver Neal, Claude Hall, Ewell Spurlock and Floyd K. Dunn; and sisters-in-law, Ina Hall, Belva Brummett, Joann Neal and Joan Neal.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Steve Arnett officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by an active United States Army contingent and the local VFW and American Legion.
