Martha Lee Ronk

May 5, 1916 - Feb. 11, 2014

GALVESTON — Martha Lee Ronk, 97, of Galveston, passed away on Feb. 11, 2014 at her son’s residence in Pendleton.

She was born on May 5, 1916 in Miami County, Indiana. Martha was the daughter of Luther V. Young and Nellie (McConnell) Young. On Feb. 18, 1939 she married John E. Ronk.

Martha graduated from Galveston High School and Rainbow Beauty College in Indianapolis. She operated a beauty shop in her home for many years and later was employed by Delco Electronics in Kokomo.

She was a volunteer with scouting, Lions Auxiliary and numerous other community organizations. Living directly across from Galveston High School, Martha had many “adopted” children who ate meals and slept at the Ronk house.

Martha loved gardening, antiques, traveling and family. She was a lifelong member of the Galveston United Methodist Church, where she served on many committees and outreach groups.

Martha is survived by her loving children, Roger (Kathy) Ronk of Pendleton, Dick Ronk of Galveston, and Daniel (Beth) Ronk of Rochester; special family member, Trudy Brehmer of Galveston; and sister, Margaret Fisher of Fowler. Martha loved her grandchildren, Kathy Ronk, Vicki (Robert) Schlotter, Karen (Matt) Ellis, Abby (Rich) Culbert, Bobbi Jo (Bill) Gibson and Chris Ronk; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; daughter, Patsie Ronk; and sister, Ruby Clymer.

A celebration of Martha’s life will be held at the Galveston United Methodist Church on February 22. Friends and relatives can greet the family from 2 to 4:30 p.m. A brief service will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Galveston United Methodist Church Echo Program.

Those unable to attend may send cards and/or donations to Dick Ronk, 11795 South 800 East, Galveston, IN 46932.
