Robert J. “Bobby” Key

ALEXANDRIA — Robert J. “Bobby” Key, 59, a lifetime resident of Alexandria, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital in Anderson after an extended illness.

Bob was born Dec. 3, 1954, in Anderson, the son of Elmer D. Key and Mary Ann (Brotherton) Key

Bob was a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School, Class of 1972. He retired from General Motors in 2006 after 33 years of employment as a journeyman tool and die maker. He was a member of Alexandria Eagles-#1771 and the Alexandria Masonic Lodge-#235. He was an active member of the former Alexandria Jaycees. Bob devoted much of his life to young people and especially in the Alexandria youth baseball and football programs. He was an avid photographer and had worked for the Alexandria Times-Tribune and the Anderson Herald-Bulletin and photographed numerous weddings and activities. Bob was a giving person and was known to help anyone. Family was very important to Bob and he was the No. 1 fan of his kids’ activities and athletics.

Survivors include two sons, Barrett Key of Alexandria and Bradley Key of Greencastle; a daughter, Becca Key-Kerr of Bloomington; his mother, Mary Ann (Brotherton) Key of Alexandria; two sisters, Vanessa (Gary) Hosier and Anita Key-Brobst, both of Alexandria; two brothers, Don (Judy) Key and Dennis (Marla) Key, all of Alexandria; the mother of his children, Donna Key-Kerr and her family; special family friends, Dick and Kim Zarse of Alexandria, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer D. Key; nephew, Doug Key; and brother-in-law, Greg Saucedo.

Friends may call at the Noffze Funeral Home, 501 North Harrison St., Alexandria, on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. The Alexandria Masonic Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home, which will close the calling hours. The family will also receive friends after 10 a.m. on Monday at the church prior to the services.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday in the Lutheran Church of Our Blessed Savior, 509 W. Washington St., Alexandria. Pastor Kal Rissman and the Rev. Jerry Young will be officiating.

Cremation will follow the services with private interment in Park View Cemetery-Alexandria.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria Little League program through the funeral home.
