Mae Evans

Oct. 2, 1920 -- Feb. 22, 2014

SUMMITVILLE — Mae (Crouse) Evans, 93, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, in the Summit Convalescent Center in Summitville following an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 2, 1920, in Summitville to Omer and Myrtle (Coy) Crouse. She lived in the Summitville area all of her lifetime and was a 1938 graduate of Summitville High School. Mae and her sister had co-owned the Collegiate Clothing Store in Noblesville. She also worked at Vasbinder Hardware, formerly of Summitville, and in food service at the Summitville Elementary School for several years. She was a member of the Summitville First Christian Church and the Christian Women’s Fellowship of the church. Mae was a collector of poetry. She was devoted to her family.

She is survived by stepdaughter, Wanita (Charles) Wright of Marion; stepdaughter-in-law, Marilyn Evans of Summitville; sister, Maxine Walker Ewing of Summitville; stepgrandchildren, Debbie Wright, Pamela (Rodney) Bolen, Kevin (Angie) Wright, Michael (Patty) Evans, Joe (Roberta) Evans, Darrell Evans; six stepgreat-grandchildren; four stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Evans in 1976; her stepson, Robert Evans in 1983; sisters, Kathryn Wehsollek in 2004, Martha McCrocklin in 2005, JoAnn Nickel in 2006; and a stepsister, Beulah Merry in 1984.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, in the Owens-Noffze Funeral Home, 1009 W. Walnut St., Summitville, with Pastor Nathan Lutterman officiating. Interment will follow in Vinson Memorial Cemetery in Summitville.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Owens-Noffze Funeral Home in Summitville prior to the services.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Summitville First Christian Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or the Activity Fund at Summit Convalescent Center through the funeral home.
