---- — MARION — David Wayne Atkinson, 61, died at home in the arms of his wife, Susie, while being soothed with music by his son, Ian.
He is the stepfather of Todd Conwell and the special father of Chad Duguid. David is the son of Melvin and Flora Atkinson. He is the brother of Sharon Miller, and the brother-in-law of John Miller. He is the uncle of Shane Miller and Jason Miller. David is the grandfather of Baleigh Blankenship and Trevor Conwell, who are the children of Cheryl Conwell.
David was employed with Crothall’s at Marion General Hospital until his illness.He was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2013. David fought hard while still being able to enjoy the time he had. David enjoyed playing guitars, modifying warfare games and he introduced his son, Ian, to model trains. He also enjoyed painting 15mm figs from various periods of military history. David especially enjoyed his visits from his grandchildren, Baleigh and Trevor, and taking his mom and wife out to dinner.
He will be mourned with a private service today at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home and buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting participation in the Cancer Services of Grant County Walk of Hope on May 2, 2014. David is being honored on this year’s Team Award Trophy. Registration for Team MGH Cancer Cleaners can be found at www.grantcountycancer.org.
