Gordon F. Jones

July 25, 1920 — Oct. 26, 2012

SUMMITVILLE — Gordon F. Jones, 92, passed from the earthly world on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Westminster Village in Muncie, Ind., after a brief illness.

He was born July 25, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Gleonard and Jessie (Canaday) Jones, and resided in the Summitville area all of his life.

Gordon was a graduate of Marion High School, Class of 1938.

He served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He did aerial photography in Okinawa, and photography remained a lifelong hobby.

He was a longtime member of Summitville United Methodist Church, the former Summitville Lions Club and Masonic Lodge. He was a volunteer firefighter in his early years and was instrumental in helping to obtain the first fire truck for Van Buren Township.

He enjoyed deer hunting, gardening, fishing and native American lore and history. He was proud of his carpentry skills and he had built almost all of the buildings on the farm. A life of devotion to his farm, his faith and his family will be fondly remembered.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Martha (Eaton) Jones; three daughters, Linda Skidmore of Muncie, Christy (John) Gillespie of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Aletha Jones (Philip Wiseley) of Madison, Wisc.; son, Jeffrey Jones, M.D. (Elaine Kovalcik) of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Lois Eaton.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, in the Owens-Noffze Funeral Home, 1009 W. Walnut St., Summitville, officiated by the Rev. Anthony Stone and the Rev. Lloyd Hall. Interment will follow at Vinson Memorial Cemetery, Summitville, where military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Elwood VFW Honors Team.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested, and may be given through the funeral home, to Summitville United Methodist Church.
