Lois Ford Collier

June 17, 1920 - March 22, 2013

ANDERSON, Ind. — On March 22, 2013, with family gathered at her side, Lois Ford Collier went to be with her Lord and Savior.

Mother Collier was born June 17, 1920, in Orion, Ala., to parents Jennie G. Herd and Will Ford.

Lois was united in marriage to Perry Collier in 1943. To that union they were blessed with three children, Jerry (Leatha) Collier, Jessica (Japheus) Woodall and Marilynn (Curtis) Collier-Mathis, all of Anderson.

Mother Collier truly loved her grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Collier.” Her grandchildren, Gerald Terrance (Family) Patterson, Devonna “Dee Dee” Woodall, Rodney (Paula) Woodall Sr., Anjanette “Binki” Woodall, Kimberly (Richard)  McAllister, Brian (Marjorie) Collier, Ivana Collier, Jerry S. Collier, Perris Hobbs, Jessica Harris. She was the proud grandmother of 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The Colliers migrated to Anderson in 1950. Lois was an entrepreneur and owned the popular Busy Bee Grill. Her love of young people was evident and the Busy Bee was always full of teenagers and those who wanted a tasty meal. Lois was employed as a domestic worker for many years, also managing Colliers Trucking, before securing employment with General Motors of Anderson and Decatur, Ala.

Mother Collier was an avid gardener and could be seen early morning till late evening grooming her yard and vegetable garden.  Mother Collier was a devout member of Wallace Temple A.M.E Zion Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board, Senior Choir, Usher Board Choir, the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society, Conference Workers, Deaconess Board, and the office dearest to her heart, local superintendent of The Buds of Promise.

Mother Collier was an advocate for the children of Wallace and the community.  On any given day you could find Mother Collier in the church yard working. Mother loved Sunday school and continued to come every Sunday until her health wouldn’t allow. Mother loved the Lord, and said in life there are going to be trials and tribulations but, “No Cross, No Crown.”

Mother also leaves to cherish her memory, several nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Collier; parents; 10 brothers and sisters; and nieces, Mae Clara Jones, Beatrice Lewis and Kate Scott.

The family wishes to thank Dr. John W. Woodall, St. Vincent Health System, Anderson, and Indianapolis for your tender care.

Services will be held at noon Friday at Wallace Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, 1518 Forkner St., Anderson, with the Rev. Dr. Anthony K.R. Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the church.

Arrangements entrusted to Glazebrooks Funeral Services.
