Because of his love for the community he worked actively in the Anderson Junior Chamber of Commerce bettering the community. He served as president of the Jaycees and received the Distinguished Service Award. Dick became a member, and later president, of the Anderson Exchange Club. One of his loves was being elected as the treasurer of the Madison County Democratic Central Committee.
He was appointed as the Anderson City Controller and later went to work for the State of Indiana. He served as trustee of the Indiana Public Retirement Fund and was a bailiff for the Madison County Unified Courts.
Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service and Crematory with Rev. Chris Mishler and Rev. William Mathys officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery with military honors conducted by the VFW Post 266.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
