Gladys Sweatt

Oct. 18, 1920 - Sept. 24, 2012

MUNCIE, Ind. — Gladys Sweatt, 91, passed away on Sept. 24, 2012, after an extended illness.

She was previously employed by Chevrolet Muncie, General Motors. She accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she served as president of The Senior Missionary, she sang in The Senior Choir, Mass Choir and served on the senior usher board. She was very well known in the church community as a soloist. She was also a member of The Christian Travelers and Morning Star Quartet. She was on the board of directors of Christian Ministries. She was also a missionary to Haiti and adopted a daughter there. She was a strong supporter of The Gospel Highlight Broadcast.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Gregory Powers; one stepson, Thomas Sweatt; four daughters, Madelean Sweatt Thomas, Betty and June Sweatt Cotton, both of Fort Wayne, and Rosemary Devareaux of Columbus, Ohio; special sister, Anna Belle Broadus; special sons and friends, Pastor Bryant Crumes (Paula), Pastor Roosevelt Boyd (Jance), Katie Childress and Ann Wesby; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; a host of special daughters and sons-in-law; and a host of special pastors and ministers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Othener Sweatt; her parents, John W. Henderson and Christine Henderson; two brothers, Earl Henderson and John Edward Henderson; one sister, Evelyn Harris; and one special sister, Ruth Redd.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Calling hours will be Sunday at Antioch Missionary Baptist from 6 to 9 p.m. At 7 p.m., special remarks will be given by family and friends and clergy. Pastor Edward Long will be officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
