---- — ALEXANDRIA — John William Delph, 86, rural Alexandria, passed away Feb. 3, 2014, at his residence.

Born Sept. 2, 1927, in Yorktown, the son of Owen O. and Mabel V. Jackson Delph, he lived his entire life in the Delaware/Madison County area.

He was a Yorktown High School graduate of 1945 and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army with occupational forces in Japan.

He retired in 1981 from Delco Remy in Anderson after 31 years as a welder.

He was a member of the Daleville Masonic Lodge where he was past master in 1987.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis and was past worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean of Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence J. Delph and Owen O. Delph Jr.; and a sister, Helen Cox.

Celebration services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ballard and Sons, 8212 S. Walnut St., Daleville, with the Rev. Marty Ballard officiating. Entombment will follow at Elm Ridge Cemetery, Muncie.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today with Masonic services at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
