---- — ANDERSON — Douglas A. “Doug” Kolenda, 71, Anderson, passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2013, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital.

He was born Sept. 7, 1942, to the late Nicholas and Collette Kolenda in Anderson. He attended Highland High School and later enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his time in Germany. After proudly serving his country, he returned to Anderson and worked at Delco Remy in shipping and receiving. After 41 years of hard work, he retired in 2005. In his free time he enjoyed farming and cabinet making. He was also active in Boy Scouts.

In 1964, he married his first wife, Shirley Patterson-Kolenda, whom sadly he lost to cancer in 1984. Together they had three children. All survive: Cindy Kolenda from Tennessee, Gayla Kolenda from Daleville, and Johnny Kolenda from Daleville.

Doug is survived by his second wife, Violet Kolenda; stepchildren David (Irma) Trueblood, Tim (Jackie) Trueblood, Dawn (Shane) Maxwell, Brian (Lisa) Hutchinson and Jeff (fiancée Nicole Smith) Rude; grandchildren Donnie, Alana, Ciara, Bailey, Logan, Caleb, Megan, Deven, Cory and Brittany; stepgrandchildren Cory and Ashley Hutchinson, Terry, Brittany, Julie, Brandon, Jessica, Morgan, Megan, Dustin (fiancée Autumn Jones) Rehmel, Danielle (fiancé Pat McKenzie) Trueblood, Shyanne, David Allen, Austin, Jace, Avveiyanna, Shantell, Cody and Shaylee; great-grandchildren Nova, Noah, Nattie, D.J. and Will; several stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters Imelda Ann Vores, Mary Helen Hawkins and Vivian (Bill) Gwaltney; sister-in-law Linda Kolenda; and several nieces and nephews.

Doug preceded in death by his parents, first wife and siblings Edgar, Michael and Julie Ann Kolenda.

Special thanks to his stepdaughter, Dawn Taliaferro, for all her love and affection and being a wonderful caregiver to him. Another special thanks to his stepson Brian and his wife, Lisa Hutchinson, owners of Big Baby’s Bar, for hosting the Kick Cancer’s Ass run. The family appreciates all the care and concern from Dr. Shareif, staff and the St. Vincent Anderson Regional Cancer Center.

Visitation will be at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 504 W. Ninth St., Anderson, on Thursday, Jan. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. Please come casual and ready to share memories. Catholic Mass will take place on Friday, Jan. 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 2801 Lincoln St., Anderson. He will be laid to rest with military honors at East Maplewood Cemetery.
