ANDERSON, Ind. — Barbara Jane Jones, 83, passed from this earthly life on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, after an extended illness.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1929, in Anderson, Ind., to George E. and Ora (Broadnax) Raymore.

She attended Anderson Community Schools, and graduated from Anderson High School in 1947. After graduation, Barbara attended a beauty college in Paducah, Ky.

When she returned to Anderson, she opened her own business called Barbara’s Beauty Salon. In the early 1970s, she was employed by St. John’s Hospital as a ward clerk. She was also employed by Guide Lamp Division of General Motors, and retired in 1993.

Barbara was an avid camper, who enjoyed camping with her loving husband, Elbert, her grandchildren and with family and friends. They traveled extensively across the country in their RV and were members of various camping clubs. She was very fortunate to travel to the Holy Land, where she obtained many pictures and keepsakes to pass out to family and friends. She was also a very stylish woman who enjoyed decorating her homes and shopping. Entertaining friends and family was also a favorite pastime of Barbara’s.

She was a member of the Church Upon the Rock MBC, where she served on the Senior Mission, Fund Raising Committee and the Usher Board.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Ricky Hughes of Muncie, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Juanita Hughes of Anderson; sister-in-law, Doris “Pat” Raymore of Anderson; five grandchildren, Celita, Rhonda, Jason, Melissa and Lanelle Hughes; seven great-grandchildren, Tierney, Cameo, Angel, Omi, Desmonde, Miriah and Micah; several nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends, including a special cousin, Georganna King, and special friends, The Simmons Family, Frances Gully, Eula Wheeler, Carolyn Black, Minnie McClendon and Renee Fuller.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elbert Jones; son, Ronald Hughes; daughter, Debra Hughes; brother, William Raymore Sr.; and grandson, Eric Hughes.

Services will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at the Church Upon the Rock, 303 E. 29th St., Anderson, Ind., with the Rev. James Streeter and the Rev. Anthony Harris officiating.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday at the church.

The family wishes to thank her loving caregiver, Chris, of St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Glazebrooks Funeral Services, Anderson.
