ANDERSON, Ind. —
Charles “Ray” Porter, 82, Anderson, died April 2, 2013, at Community Hospital, Anderson, after an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Langley, Ark., the son of Otis Porter and Annie (McGough) Porter, and resided in the Anderson area since 1948.
Ray served four years with the National Guard and two years with the U.S. Army. Ray retired from Delco Remy, formerly of Anderson, in 1983 after 30 years. He played in the Delco Remy golf league.
He was a member of the Alexandria Masonic Lodge 235. He attended Faith Assembly of God in Anderson. Ray enjoyed fishing, camping and especially his family.
Survivors include his wife, Faye (Utley) Porter, whom he married April 27, 1952; daughter, Rebecca (Greg) Sears of Anderson; son, Jeffrey Porter of Kansas City, Mo.; four brothers, Herbert Porter and Douglas (Alpha) Porter, all of Amity, Ark., Orbie (Sarah) Porter of Texas, and Donald (Lydia) Porter of Hot Springs, Ark.; four sisters, Winnie Morris of Diracks, Ark., Mary Nell (Billy) Kersy of Amity, Ark., Anita (Darrell) Francis and Betty (Lonnie) Whisenhut, all of Amity, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark Porter; brothers, Grady Porter, Winfred Porter and William Porter; and a sister, Joyce Raspberry.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Walt Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. on Saturday prior to the services.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Faith Assembly of God or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation through the funeral home.
