---- — ANDERSON — After battling cancer for seven years, Pastor Leigh Crockett was finally and forever healed Wednesday afternoon. He fought a good fight and finished his course with joy.

Pastor Crockett had shepherded Grace Baptist Church since 1984. Before coming to Anderson, he ministered as an itinerant evangelist and served as chairman of the drama department at Maranatha Baptist Bible College for six years. He sat on the national board of People Advancing Christian Education and served as the Great Lakes Regional Legislative Director for the American Association of Christian Schools. He also served for many years as vice president of the Indiana Fundamental Baptist Fellowship and vice president of the Indiana Association of Christian Schools.

Pastor Crockett earned a B.S. in Speech Education from Bob Jones University and an M.A. in Bible from Maranatha Baptist Bible College and was awarded a Doctorate of Divinity from Maranatha. Pastor Crockett was privileged to speak at camps, conferences, retreats, banquets and evangelistic meetings around the world.

His messages were broadcast for many years on the church’s radio program, Amazing Love, and TV program, God’s Turn. Many of these messages and a live stream of the service may be viewed online at

On May 26, he received a Sagamore of the Wabash award from Governor Mike Pence. Mayor Kevin Smith also recognized Pastor Crockett’s contribution to the Anderson community declaring the Sunday to be “Pastor Leigh Crockett Day.”

The Indiana Fundamental Baptist Fellowship honored Pastor Crockett for his 30 years of service as senior pastor of Grace Baptist Church.

Pastor Crockett was survived by his wife of 39 years, Beth; his sons, Joshua (Karen) Crockett, Nathan (Abigail) Crockett, Isaac and (Jill) Crockett and Luke (Charlotte) Crockett; his sister, Joy (Don) Parrott; brothers, Daniel and Davy (Karie) Crockett; and his eight grandchildren who were his joy and delight, Karis, Tessa, Micah, Shepherd, LillyAnne, Levi, Kate and Cayden.

Visitation will be held at Grace Baptist Church today from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday at 11 a.m. A committal service will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Dr. Bob III Jones will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 432 W. 300N, Anderson.
