Gary Lee Harmon

Dec. 11, 1950 - Sept. 26, 2013

INDIANAPOLIS — Gary Lee Harmon, 62, of Vandalia, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 26, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born Dec. 11, 1950, in Portland, Ind. He was the son of the late Clarence and Martha (Harshman) Harmon. His sister, Susan Rawly, also preceded him in death.

Harmon graduated from Portland High School in 1969. Harmon was a successful businessman, having built two companies from the ground up. He joined his passion for business with his love for fast cars, leading him to a successful career in the NHRA. Naturally a NASCAR fan, he also enjoyed antiquing, gardening, his family and the simple things in life.

He was a devoted steward of the Lord who practiced what he preached. He was a witness to many, getting them “on board for the Lord!” He made a real difference in so many lives.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Constance (Lee-Pickett) Harmon. Seven children, Eric (Tammy) Harmon; Rene (Steve) Southward of Springfield, Ohio; Lisa Ledezma of Portland; Dawn Smith (Jeff Gregory); Jennifer Pickett of Lafayette, Ind.; Robert Pickett of Dayton, Ohio; Chris Pickett of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, Dylan, Kyle, Emilee Southward, Kadi, Noah and Izaya Ledezma, Kelly and Cody Harmon and Sophia Gregory.

He is also survived by three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janie (Jerry) Stoner, Gloria (Jim) Frazier; and a brother, John (Janet) Harmon; 10 nieces and nephews, and parents-in-law Robert and Ramona Lee of Anderson.

The family will receive friends at the Morton and Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia, on Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. with funeral services to be at 3 p.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m, Wednesday, Oct. 2, at East Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson.

If so desired, contributions may be made to the Christian Charity of your choice in Gary’s name. A special thank you to the staff in the ICU at Good Samaritan Hospital. Gary lived his short life to the very fullest and it was ….”Wonderful.”
