---- — ANDERSON — Roger Lee Kern passed away on Oct. 27, 2013, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born May 5, 1944, in Greenwood, Miss., to Odell and Zetta Hammones. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1964 and was a retiree from General Motors. Roger was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and served on the Usher Board.
Roger leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Shirley Kern; two sons, Kevin Kern and Thomas Kern; one daughter, Stacy (Shannon) Fuller; one brother, Eddie Hammones; six sisters, Bennie Jones, Bobbie (Kern) English, Alice Guilliam, Cora (George) France, Isabella Edking and Zetta Tayllor; three sisters in-law, Versa Quivores, Mamie (Elegene) Nunn and Louise Turner; one brother-in-law, Tyson (Lozell) Turner; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He also leaves behind a devoted care team provided by Southern Care (Brandy, Rita, and Jamie) and Dr. John Woodall and his medical staff.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Aletha Kern; and brother, Odell Hammones.
Visitation will be on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the Service of Celebration, which will be held at noon Friday at New Hope United Methodist Church, 1503 Rev. J.T. Menifee St., Anderson. The Rev. Sharon A. White will officiate. Interment will be in Anderson Memorial Park.
