---- — YORKTOWN — Walter Dale Ellison, 79, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his family, following an extended illness.
He was born March 12, 1934, in Muncie, the son of Owen and Dora (Nelson) Ellison. Walter served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired from Delco Remy in 1998, after 45 1/2 years of dedicated employment. He was a member of the Yorktown United Methodist Church and, after he retired from Delco, worked for the church for four years. Walter enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Ellison of Yorktown; three children, Dale Ellison of Atlanta, Ga., Nancy Dalton (husband, David) of Muncie, and Carlyn Bird (husband, Kenny) of Yorktown; two grandchildren, Jeff Bird (wife, Melanie) and Kathy Bird, all of Yorktown; one great-grandson, Liam Bird; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, Rosalie Young, Charles Ellison, Dorothy Williams and Phillip Ellison.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Delaware County. Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
