ANDERSON — Mattiebelle McAtee, 88, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013.
She was born June 9, 1925, in Wolfe County, Ky., the daughter of Thomas E. and Sarah (Gilley) Cox. On June 27, 1942, she married the love of her life, David McAtee and together they shared 67 years of marriage until his passing on Nov. 27, 2007.
Mattiebelle retired from Triangle Products and was a charter member of the Riverview Church of the Nazarene, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved cooking, helping others, spending time with her family and her many friends, and thoughtfully making every occasion special for everyone.
Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Schwarz (husband, Rick) of Lafayette, and Dr. Rebecca Haskett (husband, Ted) of Anderson; two grandchildren, Matthew Haskett (wife, Laura) and Kristin Humphries (husband, Jeremy); three great-grandchildren, Emmitt, Alina and Asher Haskett; one sister, Mildred Harris of Indianapolis; one sister-in-law, Sue Cox; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, David McAtee; four sisters, Mary Jacob, Eva Goodman, Johanna Sleeth and Betty Dean; and four brothers, James Cox, Willis Cox, Jack Cox, and Robert Cox.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Riverview Church of the Nazarene, 2600 E. Willard St., Muncie, with Pastor Dave Shipman officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
