David R. Forkner

Sept. 3, 1921 - Oct. 7, 2010

CHESTERFIELD, Ind. — David R. Forkner, 89, of Chesterfield, died Oct. 7, 2010, at Bethany Pointe in Anderson, following an extended illness.

He was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Anderson, the son of Samuel and Harriett Forkner. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1939. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Philippines and New Guinea. Following his service in WW II, he served as a major in the Army Reserve. In 1946 he joined the staff of the Anderson Daily Bulletin as a typesetter. In 1959 he became manager of Hudson Printing Co., from which he retired in the early 1990’s. David was a member and past elder and board chairman of Chesterfield  Christian Church,  past president and member of the Chesterfield Park Department, past Boy Scout Leader and member and past president of the Anderson Noon Optimist Club.  

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mariwanda Forkner; four children, Judith (John) Skafish of Ogden Dunes, Ind., Thomas (Debbie) Forkner of Noblesville, Nancy Forkner Delph of Fishers, and Timothy Forkner of Ocilla, Ga.; four grandchildren, Bradley (Jennifer) Skafish of Burns Harbor, Ind.,   Andrea Skafish of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Adam Forkner and Allison Forkner, both of Noblesville; stepgranddaughter, Laura (Steve) Burgess of Georgia; and two great-granddaughters, Ione and Fiona Skafish of Burns Harbor, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Martha Burk; brother-in-law, Philip Burk; and sisters-in-law, Jean Forkner and Geneva Stinson.  

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson with Ned Clark officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery

Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at  the funeral home. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266 Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer’s Association in honor of his surviving wife, Mariwanda Forkner.
