Bessie 'Bess' Adams

Feb. 23, 1939 - July 31, 2013

AUSTIN, Texas — Bessie “Bess” Adams, 74, of Austin, Texas (formerly of Pompano Beach, Fla.) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at home with her daughter by her side, following an extended illness.

Bessie was born on February 23, 1939 in Anderson, Ind., to Theodore and Soteria Mitchopoulos (Mitchell).

She was a graduate of Anderson High School and American Floral Art and Design School (Chicago). Bessie retired in 1985 as the owner and operator of The Blossom Shoppe (38th and Madison Ave. in Anderson, Ind.)

She then later lived in Austin, Texas, Indianapolis, and Pompano Beach, Fla.

As the owner of her own floral and design business for more than 15 years in Anderson, Bessie knew exactly how to make a difference when she started at Barton Creek Resort in Austin on the landscape and design team. Later she worked at the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity Headquarters in Indianapolis and made a number of friends.

As she retired to South Florida in 1994, Bessie found ways to help others maintain their independence by assisting them to the grocery, doctor appointments and with overall companion care. Bessie enjoyed traveling with her daughter to San Francisco/Napa Valley, Greece and the Ionian Islands, Hawaii, Bahamas and on a Caribbean Island Tall Ship cruise to Saint Maarten, St. Kitts, Nevis & Anguilla.

Meeting new people did not stop with this sort of travel. Bessie was host to many adult students and welcomed them into her home as they came to the United States to study the English language.

Bessie is survived by her daughter Debbie Adams (David Butler, her husband) of Austin, Texas; sisters Mary Armington, Penny Seybert (Hal) of Anderson; brother Pete Mitchell and special friend, Sharon Heath of Daleville; nieces and nephews: Kathy Keene, Becky Bunes (Ray) of Fishers; Charlie Armington, Teddy Procnow of Anderson, and Maria Rudisill of Raleigh, N.C. James (Malcolm) Adams of Anderson is the father of her only daughter.
