ANDERSON, Ind. — Mary Lou Butz Toombs, 93, Anderson, passed away June 29, 2013, at her residence, after a brief illness.

She was born June 30, 1919, in Alexandria, the daughter of the late Howard H. and Iva I. (Rathel) Brown. She lived in Anderson most all of her life, graduated from Anderson High School in 1937 and attended Butler University.

Mary Lou was owner and president of Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home.

She was a member of Central Christian Church, DAR, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 591, Civic Women’s Club, Lady Elks, life-member of Girl Scouts of America, Victoria Guild, Salvation Army Auxiliary, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Fine Arts Center, a former member of Anderson Country Club, Loan Cupboard Board of Directors. She was instrumental in organizing the Isabel Society of the Harter House and served on the United Faith Housing Board at its inception.

Mary Lou is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Butz (Phil) Graham of Anderson and Rita Jo Evans of Zionsville; four grandchildren, Justin (Heidi) Puckett of Anderson, Nancy Jo Evans of Carmel, Iva (Dustin) Caldwell of Zionsville and Mark (Laura) Evans of Markleville; seven great-grandchildren, Matt Hayden, Korbin Puckett, Andrew Evans, Gabrielle Evans, Allison Caldwell, Katelyn Caldwell and Bradley Caldwell; nieces and nephews, Betsy Roby, Kay Presser, Tom Ross, George Griffith and Charlie Griffith; a special close friend, Deborah Millikan; her wonderful caregivers, Diane Shields, Hollie Perry and Shelly Davenport; good friends and business partners, Henry A. Diedring Jr. and Reinhold Mueller.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by two husbands, Frederick W. Butz, in 1983, and Max W. Toombs, in 2005; and her sister, Beverly Jo Griffith.

Services will be at conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, officiated by the Rev. Jay Harvey. Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
