---- — ALEXANDRIA — Dennis Follis, 70, of Alexandria passed away on Oct. 12, 2013, in the Carmel Health and Living Community after an extended illness.

Dennis was born in Elwood on Sept. 8, 1943, to Clarence Follis and Betty (Loser) Follis.

The lifetime Alexandria resident graduated from Alexandria High School in 1961. He served with the United States Army in the Vietnam War and was a Bronze Star recipient. Dennis retired in 1990 as a tool and die maker at Delco Remy after 39 years of employment. He was a member of the Elwood Conservation Club and United Auto Workers. Dennis loved anything connected with the outdoors, fishing, hunting, archery and firearms and was an expert marksman. He excelled in gunsmithing, bow making and knife making. He was a master woodworker and furniture maker.

Dennis is survived by his wife Theresa (Casey) Follis, married Sept. 20, 1969; son Jeremiah “Jamie” (Tammy) Follis, Fishers; daughter Heather (Matt) Ferguson, Fishers; three grandchildren; Alayna and Aubrey Ferguson and Katherine Follis; father, Jack Follis, Alexandria; brother, Phil (Janet) Follis, Alexandria; sister, Patricia (Mike) Shawley, College Station, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Follis, on June 25, 2013.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Father Dan Duff officiating the Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. Military honors by the United States Army and the Elwood VFW Honor Guard will follow the Mass. Interment of the cremains will take place in Marion National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Visitation will precede the Mass on Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. in the narthex of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Indiana Alzheimer’s Association through the Owens Funeral Home of Alexandria.
