---- — ELWOOD — Velma Louise Ritter, 92, of Elwood, died Oct. 14, 2013, at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood.
She was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Elwood, the daughter of Karl and Hazel (Jackson) Boyer.
She retired from Continental Can Corporation in 1983 where she worked for 34 years. She was a 1939 graduate of Elwood High School, and married Joel H. Ritter on Feb. 3, 1940.
She attended the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Elwood; enjoyed quilting; was well-known for making baby blankets for family and friends; and sending people cards on many occasions. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and loved spending time with her family — especially her grandchildren.
Her family includes five children, Frances “Darlene” (James) DeVore of Orestes, Jacklyn Sue (Paul) Lane of Elwood, Bonnie Jane (Larry) Lawson of Lapel, Regina Raye (David) Cress of Elwood, and Ronald Joe (Cindy) Ritter of Noblesville; sister, Martha Jane (James) Bales of Muncie; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joel H. Ritter; two children, Karl Ritter and Peggy Ann Ritter; three sisters; and three brothers.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with the Rev. Mark Arnett officiating. Burial will be in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Elwood.
