ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — Chester Wayne Barnes, 86, Alamogordo, N.M., passed away Nov. 3, 2013, at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Moonsville, Ind. He graduated from Anderson High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Decorations include the Good Conduct, Asian-Pacific Theater, Army of Occupation, and World War II Victory Medals.
Chester was an avid gardener, family historian and accomplished musician.
Chester moved to Louisville, Ky., retiring from Ford Motor Company after 31 years. After Kentucky, he resided in Davie, Fla.; Slidell, La.; St. Simons Island, Ga.; Denham Springs, La.; and Alamogordo, N.M.
Chester was a Louisville Mason and member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Alamogordo.
He leaves behind sister, Carol Carr of Columbia, Tenn.; brother, Malcolm (wife, Linda) Barnes of Alexandria, Ind.; sister-in-law, Marjorie Barnes of Anderson, Ind.; son, Mark (wife, Susan) Barnes of Baton Rouge, La.; daughter, Anne (husband, Bob) Dollinger of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; son, Dann (wife, Ann) Barnes of Alamogordo, N.M.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Richman) Barnes; and brother, Roger Barnes of Anderson, Ind.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, Daleville, Ind.
The Barnes family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home. Cremation will take place at PCS.
