ANDERSON — Katherine "Kay" Staggs Rector, 92, of Anderson, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour, Ind., after an extended illiness.
Kay was born in Coblenz, Germany, on Feb. 25, 1921. Her youth was spent in Buffalo, Wyo. She graduated from Johnson County High School in 1938 and from Spencerian Commercial School in Louisville, Ky., with a secretarial and bookkeeping degree. She worked at Johnson County Agricultural Office, Fort Warren, and W.P. Railroad.
Kay married Lowell Thomas Rector of Anderson in July of 1943. After her marriage to Lowell she became a homemaker enjoying her family, gardening, and knitting. She was a member of New Horizon United Methodist Church where in earlier years she participated in many activities. Lowell and Kay were also members of the GM Travel Club.
Katherine is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Charles) Slightam of Auburn, Wash., Laurinda (David) Isaacs of Seymour, and Barbara Rock of Daleville. Six grandchildren, Laurie (Randy) Tempest, Brian (Jennifer) Isaacs, William "Will" (Kenzie) Isaacs, Heather (Chris) Miller, Kate (Vince) Kelley, and Robert Slightam; 10 great-grandchildren, Joseph Tempest, Kyle Tempest, Ethan Isaacs, Brooklyn Isaacs, Camryn Isaacs, Anson Isaacs, Nathaniel Miller, Trey Isaacs, Katherine Miller, and Carter Kelley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five siblings, parents, and a son in-law.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St. Anderson.
Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Williams officiating.
Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
