Marjorie McLeland

Oct. 12, 1918 - June 17, 2013

ALEXANDRIA — Marjorie (McKowen) McLeland, 94, Alexandria, died June 17, 2013, at Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville, after an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 12, 1918, in Madison County, the daughter of W. Bryan McKowen and Ruth (Bradford) McKowen. A native of Alexandria, she lived in various places in Indiana, returning to Alexandria in 1986.

Marjorie had worked for Cover-All Rental and Archway Cookies, both of Fort Wayne for several years. However, she was primarily a homemaker. The care and nurture of her family was very important to her. Her late husband, the Rev. Everett L. McLeland, pastored four small churches in north central Indiana. Marjorie loved supporting him as a pastor’s wife.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne. She attended the First Baptist Church upon returning to Alexandria. When she was able, Marjorie loved to crochet. She always took time to read her Bible and also enjoyed working word puzzles.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary (John) Goelz of Fort Wayne; son, Dale (Theresa) McLeland of Ponca City, Okla.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, the Rev. Everett L. McLeland in 1987; her son, Dennis McLeland in 2009; and her sister and brother-in-law, Hildreth and Jim Griffin.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Dr. Michael Deutsch officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Cemetery at Eaton.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Life Villages, 351 N. Allen Chapel Road, Kendallville, IN 46755 or Visiting Nurse & Hospice, 5910 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46814.
