---- — LAPEL -- Nila Leticia Bilbrey, 71, of Lapel, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family, following a courageous five-year battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born Aug. 16, 1941, in Lapel, to Sherman and Ruth (Crist) Helterbrand.
She graduated from Lapel High School in 1970.
Nila was employed for many years by the former American Medical Systems in Indianapolis.
She was a member of Ford Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four children, Sherry (husband, Chuck) Davis of Lapel, Gary (wife, Lisa) Bilbrey of Sheboygan, Wisc., Larry (wife, Angie) Bilbrey of Columbus, Ohio, and Terry Bilbrey (companion, Kim Brooks) of Anderson; a foster daughter, Kirsten Miller; 15 grandchildren, Rusty (wife, Heather) Dollar, Holly McCollum, Chandra Copeland, Melisa Bilbrey, Leticia Bilbrey, Stephanie Bilbrey, Emily LeClair, Lena Bilbrey, Mason Bilbrey, Nathan Bilbrey, Hope Bilbrey, Isaac Bilbrey, Lois Bilbrey, Josh Bilbrey and Dalton Jarrett; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Patsy (husband, Paul) Fort of Lapel; and one brother, Richard (wife, Donna) Helterbrand of Lapel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lena Smiley; and brother, Donald Helterbrand.
Services 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 N.Main St., Lapel with Pastor Steve Holdzkom officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
