MARION -- Alma Marie (Small) Brown, 84, of Marion passed away June 26, 2014, at Manor Care Health Services in Anderson.
She was born Aug. 25, 1929, in Indianapolis, to Wesley and Matilda “Tillie” Malone Small. She was united in marriage to Herbert H. Brown on Dec. 20, 1948. Alma was a homemaker and certified public account who loved her family. She assisted with the family businesses, Herb’s Janitorial Service and Speedy Hauling, both located in Marion.
Alma accepted Christ at an early age when she united with Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Robert H. Faulkner.
Alma is survived by two daughters, Minister Berdita Bailey of Richmond, and Betty Bosley of Phoenix, Ariz.; and seven sons, Herbert “Sony” (Margaret) Brown, Harold Brown, Efreen (Robbie) Brown, all of Anderson, the Rev. Floyd (Ruthye) Brown, Richmond, Torrance Brown, Shelbyville, Ky., Steven Brown, Campbell, N.Y., and Larry Brown of Stockbridge, Ga.
She is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Matilda Small; husband Herbert H. Brown; daughter Ruanna Gentry Madden; son Cleon Brown; brother Edgar Chambers; and sisters Virgina Hornaday, Mary Smith and Francis Barnhill.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 2318 Sheridan St., Anderson.
The visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. The Revs. Floyd Brown and Mark Byrd will officiate. The Rev. Shelly Foard is pastor. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
