ANDERSON — Lee Roy Mooneyhan, 76, passed away July 16, 2014, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital after an extended illness.
Lee Roy was born on March 24, 1938, in Lee County, Va., to Roy and Lillie (Thomas) Mooneyhan, and had lived in the Anderson area since 1938. He had worked for K&M Home Improvements, Riley Brothers Construction and retired from General Battery and Chemical in 1978 after 16 years of employment. He served with the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960.
Lee Roy loved to fish and he enjoyed TV wrestling. He was very devoted to his family.
Survivors include six children, Lee Roy Mooneyhan Jr. and family, Charles E. Mooneyhan and family, Virgil T. Mooneyhan and family, Robert D. Mooneyhan and family, William H. Mooneyhan and family, and Tara M. Mooneyhan and family; five stepchildren, Tammy Kimble and family, James Kelley and family, Quiller Kelley and family, Amber Wynne and family, and Susie Lane and family; three brothers, Eugene Mooneyhan, James Mooneyhan and Phillip Mooneyhan; two sisters, Mary Sexton and Barbara McFarland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Woliver; his wife of 17 years, Arlene Mooneyhan in 2006; a son, Gerald Mooneyhan; and a grandson, Kyle Mooneyhan.
Services honoring Lee Roy’s life will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday at Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St., Alexandria. Ronald McFarland will officiate. Interment with military honors by the United States Air Force and the Elwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Honors Team will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
