Karl Richard ‘Dick’ Bowman

March 31, 1918 - March 22, 2013

ALEXANDRIA, Ind. — Karl Richard “Dick” Bowman, 94, Alexandria, passed away on March 22, 2013, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital, Anderson.

Born on March 31, 1918, in Battle Creek, Mich., he resided most of his life in Anderson. Karl graduated from Michigan Tech University.

He retired as a chemical engineer for Guide Lamp after more than 40 years of service.

He was a past president of the Madison County Historical Society and a past Madison County historian. He was active in Junior Achievement and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Sertoma.

Karl wrote three books, “Tip of Mitten,”  “Dorinda,”  and “History of Guide Lamp.”

Karl is survived by his loving spouse whom he married June 14, 1997, Maurita (Lyle) Bowman of Alexandria; two daughters, Jill Bowman of Fishers and Nan (Bob) Spier of Sacramento, Calif.; stepson, Stephen (Ellise) Hayden of California; stepdaughter, Cheryl (Joe) Spaur of Alexandria; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Jackson of California; sister in-law, Jean Bowman of Arizona; and several nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alberta (Dickerson) Bowman; brother, George Bowman; and nephew, Ben Bowman.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Bill Mathys officiating. Cremation will take place.

Memorial contributions may be made to Madison County Historical Society.
