PENDLETON, Ind. — A. Dale Michael, 87, passed away May 1, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Jan. 30, 1926 in Anderson. Dale graduated from Pendleton High School in 1944 after earning nine athletic letters (three each in basketball, baseball and track) and serving three years as class president. He enlisted in the Naval Air Force, entering the service July 1, 1944, and spent one year at DePauw University in Officer Training School. He received tarmac training at Norman (Okla.) Naval Air Station then transferred to Iowa Preflight School. Dale elected to leave the service following the end of World War II. He completed his B.S. degree in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University in 1949 and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Following graduation he was employed three years as Bartholomew County Assistant Ag Agent/Youth Agent in Columbus.

He served a total of 18 years on the Pendleton Metropolitan and South Madison School Boards, during which time the original South Elementary and two subsequent additions were built, ground was obtained and Pendleton Heights High School was built and ground was obtained for East Elementary. He served eight years on the Pendleton Fall Creek Township Park Board, during which ground and financing were obtained for Brown’s Pool and construction completed.

Dale also worked eight years for ACA Calumet Contract Engineering Personnel as a recruiter, salesman and Indianapolis office manager and 10 years for South Madison Realty in the areas of listings, sales and appraisals.

He was a member of Pendleton First United Methodist Church for approximately 48 years, working much of that time as an usher and serving previously on various committees including chairman of Finance Committee and Board of Trustees.

The family would like to extend heartfelt love, gratitude, and appreciation to a special friend and caregiver, Aubrey Rhea.
