Glenna Glee Williamson Jenkins

ANDERSON, Ind. — Glenna Glee (Ellsworth) Williamson Jenkins, 95, of Anderson, passed away on May 19, 2013, at Keystone Woods Assisted Living Anderson.

She was born on Feb. 1, 1918, in Anderson, to Adalaska and Loueva (Weir) Ellsworth, and lived here or in the very near vicinity all her life.

She retired from Delco Remy in 1974 after 30 years of service. She was also certified as a master graphoanalyst (handwriting) in 1970.

Glenna was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1933, Camp Fire Girls, Anderson Johnnies Model Airplane Club, Delco Remy Girls Softball and Basketball teams, Boy Scouts of America as a Den Mother and Den Mother Trainer, Civic Theater, Indiana State Federation of Poetry Clubs, National Federation of State Poetry Societies, Midwest Writers Workshop committee and local bowling leagues.

She received the Universal Emblem and the Unknown Scout Award from BSA and the Dorothy Hamilton Award from Midwest Writers.

During her affiliations in poetry, she served as president and editor of the newsletter for the ISFPC for 12 years, also four years as contest director. She was named Poet Laureate of ISFPC for 1980-81 and 2002-04 and received three recommendations for service to that organization. She was recognized by the Indiana General Assembly as Poet Laureate in the 101st Session, 1980. She served as Youth Director for NFSPS for over 10 years. Her poetry has received many honors in contests and she has published several chap books, the more recent being “The Green-Eyed Monster,” “As I See It,” and “Wrinkled Path.”

Glenna married Robert Paul Williamson on Christmas Eve in 1939, with whom she had two sons, James Albert, and Rex Andrew. He was a heating and air conditioning contractor here in Anderson. He died in July 1969.

She married Major Alvin Roscoe Jenkins in 1973, a career Army man, one of the most highly decorated in Madison County. He passed in 1977. He had two sons, William and Alvin Jr., both of Ohio.

She is survived by her two sons, James of Sheridan, and Rex, and daughter-in-law Belinda of Anderson, grandson, Brian and his wife Nancy, grandchildren Natalie Paige Williamson, Morgan Nicole Williamson, and Drew Riley Williamson of Hagerstown, several cousins, several Jenkins’ in-laws and traveling companion, cousin Donna Shelton, and her family. Also there are several step-grandchildren and their families, and special friends Marietta Castor and Lucille Ashby.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; a brother, Dallas Mervil, born and died before she was born, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd St. Anderson, Indiana.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bill Mathys officiating. Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park.
