ANDERSON, Ind. —
William O. “Bill” Toombs Jr., 84, of Anderson, passed away March 28, 2013, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Mill Shoals, Ill., the son of the late William O. and Mary Toombs. He graduated from Anderson High School and lived most all of his life in Anderson. He retired from IRC&D Trucking Company as a truck driver.
Bill served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of Teamsters Union, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266 and Eagles Lodge Aerie 174.
He is survived by four children, Angie M. Halsell, Rodney W. Toombs, Sherri L. Muncy and Terry B. Toombs, all of Anderson; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Surber of Florida and Jean Prischner of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Charlotte A. Toombs, on Nov. 14, 2012.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Snyder officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 266.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
