---- — LAPEL — Joseph Lee “Joe” Carlin, 78, Lapel, passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Community Hospital of Anderson following a brief illness.
He was born on March 18, 1935, in Anderson, to William and Margaret (Thompson) Carlin.
He graduated from Lapel High School in 1953.
Joe retired in 1990 from the former Inland Fisher Guide division of General Motors in Anderson after 26 years of employment.
He enjoyed fishing and traveling.
He is survived by his daughter, Patti (husband, Harold) McDermit of Anderson; three grandchildren, Brandi Borum, Kristina (husband, Joshua) Walls, and Alicia Sprague, all of Anderson; two step-grandchildren, Stacy (husband, Nathan) Wainscott of Lapel and Beth (husband, Chase) Merrill of Alexandria; two great-grandchildren, Cody Meador and Jose Leal; two step-great-grandchildren, Madison Wainscott and Cooper Merrill; and a sister, Wanda (husband, George) Sheller of Tipton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy (Risco) Carlin; his son, Tim Carlin; a granddaughter, Natalie Sprague; and a sister, Wilma Rose Carlin.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 N. Main St., Lapel, with Pastor Dillard Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis or the Lapel Ambulance.
