ELWOOD — Julia Jean Butcher, 91, died June 15, 2013, at Summitville Convalescent Center.
She was born July 17, 1921, in Sharpsville, the daughter of Curtis D. and Juva M.(Covalt) Richards.
She was formerly a secretary for her family business, Butcher Feeds Co., and also worked as a clerk at Alexandria Library until 1996. Jean was a 1939 graduate of Sharpsville High School and later attended Indiana State College.
She married Lowell Butcher on Feb. 14, 1941.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Elwood, Sharpsville Order of Eastern Star, Lady Elks, and Tri-Kappa. She was also a member of Remocwen Group and a volunteer at Mercy Hospital.
Family includes three daughters, Barbara (David) Abernathy of Elwood, Brenda (Philip) Davis of Elkhart, and Beverly (Craig) Wargowsky of Naperville, lll.; three grandchildren, Kristina (David) Retherford of Elwood, Monica (Marty) Wells of Elwood, and Andrew (Rachel) Davis of Indianapolis; four great-grandchildren, Will and Allison Retherford and Bailey and Brock Wells; two step-great-grandchildren, Derek and Drew Wells; and a niece and nephew.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell Butcher; sister, Nancy Puccio; and longtime friend, Claude Butcher.
Service 10 a.m. Tuesday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home,Elwood, with the Rev. Chris Dare officiating. Burial at Sharpsville Cemetery. Visitation 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
