ELWOOD — Evalyn R. (Hoover) VanBriggle, 89, of Elwood, died April 24, 2014, at Community Parkview Care Center in Elwood.
She was born Oct. 27, 1924, in Tipton County, the daughter of Oscar E. and Bertha A. (Johnson) Hoover. Evalyn was a homemaker and farm wife. She married Gene VanBriggle on June 14, 1942. She was a member of East Main Street Christian Church, Order of Eastern Star, and Red Corner Home Economics Club.
Evalyn’s family includes five children, Gwendolyn (Rick) Titus of Elwood, Deborah Sue VanBriggle of Anderson, Larry W. (Teresa) VanBriggle of Frankton, Terry G. (companion, Anna) VanBriggle of Rensselaer, and Rex (Barbara) VanBriggle of Frankton; four sisters, Esther Humphries of Clovis, N.M., LaVien Luttrell of Seymour, Betty “Jo” Jarvis of McMinnsville, Ore., and Gretchen Fakes of Atlanta; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hoover of Tipton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene VanBriggle; two daughters, Barbara Lee and Vicki Lynn VanBriggle; great-grandson, Victor Ray Muncy; two brothers, Carmel Hoover and Gail “Gene” Hoover; and four sisters, Althea Fern Hoover, Lloyd Carmichael, Dorothy Miller and Sara Ann Weese.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with the Rev. Roger Gardner officiating. Entombment will be in Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
